“a string” quartet explores the sonic possibilities and inter-relationships between 4 string players on one string. Playing on the same string, 4 players are affecting each other by giving inserting different pressures and creating different lengths by stopping the string. On the other hand, the piece further investigate the sonic relationship between the materials of the performance objects and the performative gestures, such as playing the bow sideways on the string as well as playing a bow on a bow. It was devised to investigate how string techniques can be transformed in a musical act beyond the string players’ instruments.
